ATTRACTIONS IN LOUISIANA

HISTORIC SITES:

Louisiana State Capitol Building — Baton Rouge, LA
The Louisiana Capitol is an Art Deco, 34-story, 450-foot Alabama limestone-clad skyscraper that was part of Huey Long's political platform in the 1920's.

Old Governor's Mansion — Baton Rouge, LA
Built in 1930, this four-floor Georgian mansion is said to be a copy of the White House. Rumor has it that Governor Huey Long commissioned the mansion because he wanted to be familiar with the White House in Washington when he became president.

Port Hudson State Historic Site — Zachary, LA
This 909-acre park was the site of the longest siege in American military history. Today visitors can watch costumed interpreters demonstrate Civil War weapons and equipment.

East Feliciana Parish Courthouse & Lawyers Row — Clinton, LA
This Greek Revival Courthouse was built in 1840 and is one of only four courthouses built in Louisiana before the Civil War are still used for parish proceedings.

Audubon State Historic Site & Oakley House — St. Francisville, LA
The main feature of the 100-acre woodland site is Oakley House, where John James Audubon lived and painted for a short time. In this beautiful natural setting visitors discover the bounty of natural inspiration for Audubon's prolific paintings.

Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site — St. Francisville, LA
One of the most iconic plantations in Louisiana, the Rosedown Plantation was once comprised of approximately 3,455 acres, the majority of which was planted in cotton. Currently, the Rosedown Plantation is comprised of: the main house, historic gardens, 13 historic buildings and 371 remaining acres—all of which are preserved as a state historic site by the Office of State Parks.

Slidell Historic Antique District — Slidell, LA
This historic antique district features antiques and collectables from over 40 vendors and sponsors an Antique Street Fair in April and October.

The Princess Theatre — Winnsboro, LA
This historic theatre opened in 1925 as a silent movie theater, and was given to the city of Winnsboro in 1992. The theatre was renovated and is currently used for performing arts and educational programming.

Acadian Village — Lafayette, LA
This folk life museum gives authentic insight into the Acadian society of the 19th century. Built in 1976 as a means to promote tourism and allow developmentally disabled citizens a place to prosper in the work force, this village has now become a central attraction of Lafayette.

TRAILS AND TOURS:

Louisiana's African American Heritage Trail:
This trail begins in New Orleans and winds throughout the state to highlight the people, places and events that made African American experience in and contributions to the state of Louisiana so significant.

Audubon Golf Trail:
The trail has 13 world-class courses all over Louisiana, all the courses on the trail are members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for Golf Courses and all are inspired by the greatest designer of all time—nature.

Louisiana Birding Trail:
The America's Wetland Birding Trail is a natural paradise and a phenomenal place for any bird enthusiast to follow.

Louisiana Biking Tours and Trails:
Not only is biking throughout Louisiana one of the best ways to get first-hand knowledge of the terrain and peoples, it is also easy thanks to the flat land and comfortable, paved roads.

The Louisiana Ancient Mounds Tour:
Louisiana has a wealth of Native American sites dating to as early as 4000 B.C., the most obvious of which are the many mounds that can be seen throughout the state. The Louisiana Ancient Mounds Trail is about a five-hour tour by car with 37 sites that can be seen from public highways and stops at the museums at Poverty Point and Marksville.

Culinary Trail of Louisiana:
Louisiana is famous for its cuisine, in fact, it is one of the top 15 global destinations for food-related travel. From Creole tomatoes to fresh oysters, this trail helps visitors to discover the authentic cuisine hidden throughout this dynamic state.
