PLACES IN MEXICO

The vast and amazing legacy of the ancient inhabitants of Mexico serves as testimony of the splendor and how advanced were the diverse cultures that lived this territory. From the cave paintings in the Sierra de San Francisco in Baja California Sur -the most important in America- and the austere adobe dwellings built in Paquimé, in the north of the country, to the monumental cities from Mesoamerica, whose architecture and magnificence still inspire amazement in locals and foreigners alike: Teotihuacan, Xochicalco, El Tajín, Monte Albán, Palenque, Calakmul, Uxmal and Chichén Itzá.

Mexico has two UNESCO recognized sites considered to possess an exceptional scientific value with habitats of threatened species of animals or plants, and of extraordinary merit from a natural beauty point of view. Sian Ka’an, located in the Yucatan peninsula, and the Whale Sanctuary of El Vizcaíno, in Baja California Sur are biosphere reserves in which several ecosystems coexist and that remain mostly unaltered by man, and that need to be preserved to shelter endemic species, representative of the nation’s bio diversity.
